In this class, we will definitely be using calculators! I believe that young children who have access to calculators can enjoy a new way to play with and learn about numbers, counting, and the magnitude and relationships between numbers.
We will not only be using handheld calculators, but we will also be using an online calculator called Desmos. Starting practice with Desmos now is important because our students will see it once they begin taking SOL tests in the 3rd grade. Click the button below to check it out! |

When it comes to learning videos for my second graders, we love watching Scratch Garden! Scratch Garden makes entertaining educational videos for kids who love to learn AND laugh!
This video is a great introduction to fractions. It features fraction examples in every day life as well as equal share and fair-share problems. |
ABCYA is a favorite with my students! Who doesn't love to play games? These games give students a little bit of a brain break but still keep them engage in learning. We use ABCYA a lot because I like how the website filters games by grade-level.
Try Fraction Fling on ABCYA by pressing the blue "Play Now" button! |

Sing a song! What better way to get information stuck in your head than with a catchy song!
This song does a great job of breaking fractions down while helping with memorization. |
